The Importance of Mental Health Support

All partner organizations within the VPPP East of England region understand that mental health support lies at the core of assistance for the veteran community. A crucial aspect of this support involves close collaboration with the NHS.

As part of the Operation Courage service the NHS launched a new campaign on 9th January. The NHS is rolling out an expanded mental health support service for Armed Forces veterans.

A new survey of over 3,000 veterans and serving personal, carried out by NHS England, found that the majority (around 60%), of those who took part, said they found it difficult to ask for help for mental health issues.

As a result, NHS England have redesigned the service, with a focus on boosting self-referrals, as well as the addition of enhanced addiction support, and kicked off an awareness campaign highlighting the service which supports veterans, reservists, and service leavers.
